Policies

Code of Conduct

Milpitas Model UN is committed to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment for all delegates. Delegates are expected to conduct themselves with decorum and respect throughout the conference, and in all interactions with fellow delegates, staff, advisors, and guests. Inappropriate use of language, hate speech, or any form of verbal or physical harassment is not allowed. Violations of these policies may result in removal from committee, disqualification from awards, and notification of the advisor.

Technology

Delegates are allowed to use laptops only during unmoderated caucuses for General Assembly committees. Crisis committees are allowed to use paper, notepads, and sticky notes only.

Position Papers

We do not require delegates to submit position papers because this is a beginner friendly conference. However, delegates should read their committee background guides and thoroughly research their position and topics in order to actively participate in debate.

Pre-Written Clauses & AI

Resolutions, directives, and other committee documents should be written only during committee sessions. Delegates should not work on these documents outside of committee. Plagiarism and the use of AI tools in the writing of committee documents is strictly prohibited. Delegates in violation of this rule will be penalized based on the severity of the violation.

Awards

Delegates will be recognized for exceptional diplomacy, engagement, and creativity. Awards will be determined by committee chairs. Each committee will be given the following awards. The number of Outstanding Delegate, Honorable Mention, and Verbal Commendation awards will be based on the size of the committee. Delegates who receive a Verbal Commendation will be recognized but will not receive a physical award.

Dress Code

Delegates should wear Western business attire during all committee sessions, except where faith-based attire or accommodations apply.

Advisors

Advisors are not required to remain on campus during the conference. We will have a room assigned for advisors who wish to stay onsite.

Refunds

Milpitas Model UN’s goal is to keep our conference affordable for all delegates so that cost is not a barrier to attendance. To help maintain our low registration fee, we are unable to offer refunds, as the administrative cost associated with processing refunds exceed the registration cost. Requests involving extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
